September 2020 Economic Impacts and the Effect on Public Education Funding This year has certainly presented some very unique challenges across all facets of our society due to the global health crisis. One of those areas that has the potential to impact schools is the decrease in state revenue collection caused by the economic impacts of COVID-19. Funding for K-12 public education is the largest expense in the state budget and the loss of revenue will likely equate to less funding than originally allocated as we head into the second year of the biennium budget. This is something that we have been aware of as a District and while efforts are being made to mitigate the potential impact at both the local and state level, it will take strong collaboration in order to ensure that these efforts are successful. ATTN 6th Grade PARENTS: "The Student Immunization Law requires that all students through grade 12 meet a minimum number of required immunizations https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/publications/p44021.pdf. For students in 6th grade this means that they need to have the adolescent booster of tetanus and pertussis/whooping cough or "Tdap" as well as their second "varicella" or chickenpox vaccine. These requirements can be waived only for health, religious or personal conviction reasons. You may contact your child's primary care physician, or possibly the Brown County Health Department at (920) 448-6400, your local Walgreens or CVS pharmacies to see if they are able to provide the immunizations your child needs. To remain compliant with the law, please provide the month, day and year that your child received the required immunization(s) or select one of the waiver options. Please let us know if you have a scheduled appointment in the coming weeks for your student. You may provide the immunization or appointment information by calling the school office at 662-7871 and one of the school secretaries can update your child's records in our system or send updated immunization info into school with your child. PUBLIC HEALTH authorities recommend that teenagers and college-bound students be immunized against a potentially fatal bacterial infection called meningococcal disease, a type of meningitis. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other leading medical organizations recommends that all 11-12 years olds should be vaccinated with meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4). A booster shot is recommended for teens at age 16 to continue providing protection when their risk for meningococcal disease is highest. Teens who received MCV4 for the first time at age 13 through 15 years will need a one-time booster dose at 16 through18 years of age. If a teenager missed getting the vaccine altogether, they should ask the doctor about getting it now, especially if they are about to move into a college dorm or military barracks. To learn more about meningococcal disease, vaccine information, and public health resources visit www.cdc.gov/meningitis/index.htm. |
