THANK YOU to the LV PTO and especially Sara Fielder and her helpers for putting the gift bags of goodies together for all of our staff members for Staff Appreciation Week. Our parents made some very generous donations that made these special gifts possible.
The Staff at Lineville THANKS YOU VERY MUCH!!!! LITERACY UPDATES
Are you looking for ways to support writing at home? Support your child with these writing strategies! READ, READ, READ! The best activity to improve writing is reading. If your child reads good books, he/she will be a better writer. Reading exposes students to general vocabulary, word study and content-specific vocabulary. Through reading, students see a variety of authors’ techniques that they can use in their own writing. ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO KEEP A REFLECTIVE JOURNAL This is excellent writing practice, as well as a good outlet for venting feelings. Encourage your child to write about things that happen at home and school. BE A WRITING ROLE MODEL Make sure your child sees you as a writer. Point out times that you use writing to communicate with others. Discuss authentic writing in the community such as articles and letters in the newspaper, on billboards or in written advertisements. Discuss the purpose of the writing and the target audience. When your child writes, you should write. You can schedule a day of the week that you will turn off the television and share your writing. START A VOCABULARY NOTEBOOK Teach your child new words each week and encourage him or her to use them. Make it into a game and give points for using the new words. Your child can keep a vocabulary notebook and get rewarded for the number of new words learned. The words will begin to appear like magic in their oral language and writing. April 2021 HSSD Referendum - What’s Next? The Howard-Suamico Board of Education would like to sincerely thank our community for voting yes and yes to approve the two referendum questions on April 6, 2021. We are grateful the community recognizes district needs and supports them. Support from the community promotes unity and provides opportunity. We are proud to be the only district in the state of Wisconsin with plans to lower the tax levy rate while passing a facilities referendum. We also want to thank everyone involved that helped make this referendum a success, especially the volunteer members of the Community Task Force and Citizen Action Team. There were more than 35 referendum informational meetings attended by more than 700 staff and community members who shared their time to ask questions and learn more about the referendum plan. The next steps in the planning process have already begun. There will be several meetings regarding finance strategy that will focus on maximizing the impact of referendum funding. At Bay View and Forest Glen, meetings will begin in May with the principals, staff, students, and the architect firm EU:A. In May the district will also be selecting a construction manager that will work together with EU:A and the district. The remainder of 2021 will conclude the design process. In early 2022 the bidding process will begin. The district will look at several bids before selecting a construction company. Construction will begin late Spring 2022 and for some of the larger facilities improvements construction will continue through 2023. HSSD is committed to maintaining the referendum website with a focus on consistent and clear communication to keep the community informed as this exciting process continues. You can recognize your child's current and former teachers and staff by sending them a personalized certificate of appreciation. Send your certificate today at https://hseducationfoundation.org/how-to-help/givinggratitude.html. We will distribute the personalized certificate, including your message, during Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week in May. On behalf of the Howard-Suamico Education Foundation, thank you for supporting our amazing HSSD teachers and staff! Hello Friends! Sharing with you an opportunity to bring our community around the topic of mental health! The Brown County Coalition for Suicide Prevention is hosting a free 'open house', drop-in style event at the Neville Public Museum Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 12-3 pm. The idea is to give our community space and place to talk about mental health, and suicide prevention is a nonthreatening, positive way. There is no cost for the event. The Neville will not charge admission to attend this event. There will be family activities, (available as 'grab and go') and interactive discussion prompts to encourage a safe, Covid friendly, conversation. Many area agencies and organizations will be onsite sharing resources. A "Lived experience" panel discussion will be the only scheduled event and will be held in the auditorium/theater.
The goal of this community engagement is to normalize the dialogue, reduce stigma and focus on what we CAN do, so that the most preventable tragedy of suicide never becomes a reality. We look forward to joining forces, creating partnerships, igniting Hope, and being the voice of awareness for better mental health and suicide prevention- truly #BetterTogether! for more info feel free to text , email or call, any time! YOU matter, you are valued, you are a Gift to so many. Thank you for being part of the solution! more info Looking forward, in gratitude~ Lori Cuene [email protected] (920)819-7716 SCHOOL FEES
